We are a homesteading family located in the central New York finger lakes region. We started with a couple of horses, a small flock of chickens, and 2 doeling Nigerian Dwarf goats. We have expanded our herd over the years to meet our family's growing needs, adding more goats for dairy, kunekune pigs for pork, Shetland sheep for wool, calves for beef, a mini horse and donkeys for carting, and mini Rex rabbits for fun (Justin and Emily's choice - we were supposed to get meat rabbits!). Since our beginning, we have loved and raised every animal born (and acquired) on our farm. We maintain our animals as naturally as possible while upholding crucial health standards and socializing them to human affection. Our goal in breeding animals is to provide others with a beloved member of the family that is also capable of producing for the family. We breed throughout the year and will update as animals become available. We also offer petting zoo farm experiences. Please see our events pages for more details. Or come stay with us at our Airbnb, the F House at Mad Fam Farm!
Blackie was one of our first goats on the farm. She has brown eyes and came to us disbudded. She is the mother of Cookie and Oreo. She typically delivers 2 or 3 kids each pregnancy without any complications and is an excellent mother. Her larger teats are great for handmilking.
We acquired Ms.Clara as an adult after the passing our other original goat, Whitey. Blackie and Ms. Clara became instant best friends and are always together. Ms. Clara has blue eyes and is polled. She is a sweet goat and is greatly respected by the other does. Buddy is her grandson.
Snow White is the older sister to Caramel. Both are daughters out of Whitey and Buck. She looks identical to her mother except she has blue eyes and Whitey's were brown.. Whitey was an extremely attentive mother, a trait also seen with Snow.
Caramel was the last kid out of Whitey. She is our largest doe. She has produced lovely kids with Billy.
Cookie and Oreo are twins born on Mother's Day 2020 out of Blackie and Buck. She is our daughter Emily's favorite doe and has produced beautiful kids with Buddy.
Oreo often enjoys time away from the herd to just come and hang with us. She tends to have triplets out of both Billy and Buddy.
Buck is our original herd sire. He is a playful, gentle goat who adores having kids. He has blue eyes and horns. He is typically bred to Blackie and Ms. Clara. He has consistently produced healthy, attractive, well balanced kids for us throughout the years. Billy is his best friend.
Billy and Buddy were added to the farm at about the same time, but Billy prefers Buck's company as they both like to goof around head butting. Billy has brown eyes and is polled. He has produced outstanding kids with some of the softest, fluffiest coats. Billy enjoys playing the role of uncle and rough housing with the bucklings born on the farm.
Buddy came to us as a bottle baby alongside his grandmother Ms. Clara. He is our daughter Emily's pride and joy after raising him next to her bed. He doesn't like to play rough and prefers the company of people instead of goats. He is petite and produces dainty yet thrifty kids. He has blue eyes and is polled and has a luxurious chocolate and white coat. He carries a blonde gene that dilutes black to grayish brown in his offspring, creating unique, striking coat colors.
Maple Frosting is a truly special goat. While most of our goat kids are ridiculously friendly, Maple is calm in his approach to affection and well suited for public life. He has begun training for his role in the community as our farm ambassador.
Our daughter Emily's beloved Salmon Faverolle chicken from a flock of about 40 chickens of various egg laying breeds. Tiny enjoys a privileged life in our house and likes going on hikes, riding in the UTV, modeling chicken clothes, and sharing ice cream and sodas with Emily.
BF Roo is a Bielefelder rooster and one of three roosters on the farm. He nearly lost his life to a fox and now enjoys staying close by to the house with some of his favorite hens.
Jake is a Royal Palm turkey. Quirky is a Broad Breasted turkey. Their offspring are called Midget Whites. Quirky loves brooding and raising babies - and not just her own species! She has hatched chicks, ducklings, and goslings in addition to her own poults. Jake is a docile tom turkey and totally in love with Quirky, following her wherever she goes.
The American Buff geese are our original goose breed. They are the busy bodies of the farm and must know everything that is going on. They think their opinions are most important and are great at making that well known to us and all the other animals.
Monroe and Rosalee are a mated pair of African geese. They are mild mannered geese and enjoy carrying on conversations with us. Daisy, our only adult duck, is their best friend and the trio always stick together.
Henry, Duncan, Francis, and Evan were hatched 6/9/23. Henry is an African goose and double the size of his friends, who are Buffs. Duncan struggled to walk and raise his head in the beginning of his life, but with some physical therapy, he has made a complete recovery!
Nothing makes Clove's day like a good belly rub! She squeals with delight at hearing her name. She and her friend Rosemary are pets but kunekunes are prized for their meat quality and ease on land. Their turned up noses make them grazers, not rooters.
Rosemary earned her place in the world as a survivor. Born during an unexpected cold snap, she was chilled and almost lost. We are so grateful for her determination! She is such a sweet, gentle girl who adores a good back scrqtch or head rub.
These girls came to the farm last year and this will be our first year with wool. Olive is the social one and seeks out a hand for scratches or treats. Her friend Marshmallow has become quite a sweetheart herself.
Popcorn and her friend Poof are mini Rex rabbits. Popcorn is social and curious and often mischievous. She loves chasing the cats and getting licks from Lucy or Moe.
Poof is an easy going guy. He enjoys a gentle pet while relaxing in an arm. His favorite treats are carrots and cucumbers, but he's not one to overindulge.
Moe is a Holstein steer. He enjoys going on hikes and giving kisses to anyone who will let him (which used to be just Popcorn but now Potato can't get enough of it too!) He adores being with us (and us with him) and getting chin and neck scratches. Moe was our first petting zoo calf, but he has become too large for that purpose, so now he hangs out with our full size horses.
Allister (Scottish for "Defender of Men" but we say "Defender of Goats") is a Scottish Highland/Ancient White Park steer calf. He is just the sweetest, most laid-back guy unless he feels like something is threatening his babies, the goat kids. He will put himself between them and danger and moo loudly. Al just adores his babies and lets them bounce all over him and eat right out of his mouth.
Frozen was born 2/2/23 on a very cold, wintry night. He's the diva of the farm and likes to boss everything around. If you stop petting him, he will demand you continue by giving a gentle nip to say, "hey, I didn't ask you to stop!" Only Scout can manage his big personality.
Breezy is our sweet dainty girl. She prefers Al's company than that of Frozen's, as Al is easy going like her and Frozen likes to rough house.
Potato is a Tennessee Walker. He and his half-sister Lovebug came to our farm as yearlings to grow and learn with our children, Justin and Emily. Potato thinks it's funny to tease his sister until she gets annoyed but would rather hide behind her when things get scary.
Lovebug is a Spotted Saddle horse. She's a smart, confidant girl who doesn't let her big brother best her. Both she and her brother are gaited and are extremely loving horses.
Rhapsody is an elderly Arabian mare. She taught both our children how to ride. In her younger days, she loved trail riding up and down hills and playing in water. Now she gets to take it easy and teaches the younger horses how to be confident in and out of the pasture.
Lucy was a pup when Emily was a baby. She still enjoys chasing pheasants and scaring off foxes. She will start barking when she hears the chickens start squawking. She loves every animal big and small and not one is fearful of her despite her size. She almost puts Moe to shame with licking.
Scout is a short haired border collie who takes his job very seriously and every animal knows it. If he could herd our goldfish, he would! Only Peaches has no respect for him. She relishes intimidating him by pouncing at him when he least expects it. He doesn't dare give her the border collie stare.
Mittens likes pretending she is a lion but the animals all know she is no mighty hunter. She can't even catch flies! The bunnies chase her and the hens use her to teach their chicks how to scare off predators. Her only thrill is sneaking up on Needy since she startles easily, but even Needy is starting to get wise to Mitten's charade.
Peaches is the true hunter at heart. She came to us as an emaciated stray. She's an affectionate kitty and is now wary of the outdoors, but her predatory response is easily activated with the slightest movement. She also knows that sometimes offense is the best defense, as demonstrated with Scout.

Host a party on our farm with our animals or arrange for the mobile farm experience. We are offering private bookings of our petting zoo for Summer 2024.
Pricing for an on-our-farm event starts at $275 for two hours at the farm for 15 guests. Additional time is $125 per hour. Additional guests are $10 per person. Party duration is limited to four hours. Booking an event at the farm includes a fenced enclosure with select farm animals. Tents, tables, chairs, and trash cans will be available. Arrangements can be made for a restroom at an additional fee. You are welcome to bring food to the property to be enjoyed outside of the animal enclosure. Animals may only be fed food provided by us, which will be included for your event. You are welcome to bring decorations but you are responsible for removing them after the event. As the events take place where our animals graze, we ask that you refrain from bringing glitter and balloons or other small items that may pose a risk of ingestion by our animals. We reserve the right to not allow other items we feel could be a potential risk to our animals or land. Paper based decorations are preferred. Aerosol sprays, such as insect repellent or sunscreen, need to be applied at your vehicle or prior to arrival at the event. No animals other than our own are allowed on the farm. Anyone acting inappropriately to the animals or to our property will be asked to leave without refund.
If you would like to book a mobile event, please be aware we need a day prior to the event for set up of the enclosure and additional time after the event for break down. Distance from our farm to your event is a factor in determining our ability to offer the mobile farm experience. Please inquire for more details and pricing if you are interested in having us come to you..
To book any type of event, a deposit of half the cost of the event is required. All events are weather dependent. If an event needs to be cancelled as determined by us, we will offer either another date or refund your deposit in entirety. Cancellations 48 hours prior to event will incur a loss of half your deposit. Cancellations less than 48 hours in advance will result in loss of entire deposit.
We understand life is unpredictable (we have a farm full of animals and children!) and we'd really like you to meet our mad farm. If you need to cancel, we will try to accommodate your event for another day.
